How to use the database

Use the filters to narrow the database by intended use, stability, cushioning, plate, weight, heel-to-toe drop, stack height, or price. You can also search by brand or model name and sort the results by brand, model, price, or release order. When several models interest you, add them to the comparison tool to view their specifications side by side. The Shoe Finder provides a guided starting point for runners who would rather answer a short series of questions.

Browse by intended use

Trainers are generally designed for everyday mileage and routine training. Super Trainers commonly combine taller cushioning, responsive foams, or stiffening elements for workouts and faster long runs. Super Shoes are lightweight performance models intended primarily for racing, often using highly responsive foam with a plate, rods, or another stiffening structure. These labels are informal, and individual designs vary.

Reading the specifications

Stack height describes the amount of material between the foot and the ground, but it does not by itself determine softness or cushioning. Heel-to-toe drop is the difference between the heel and forefoot measurements and can influence how a shoe’s geometry feels, but it does not determine foot strike. Stability shoes may use geometry, sidewalls, guide rails, or firmer foam to create a more supported ride. Plates and rods add stiffness, although their materials, shapes, and effects vary among models.

Data, prices, and availability

Cadence organizes specifications from manufacturers, established retailers, and other sources described in the Shoe Data Methodology. Measurements can differ by size, region, source, and testing method. Cadence does not directly sell shoes, and displayed prices are reference information that may change. Visit an individual shoe page to review available sources, verification details, editorial context, and external purchase links.
