How Cadence researches, writes, reviews, updates, and corrects running-shoe content.

Cadence is an independent running-shoe research and comparison platform. Our goal is to help runners understand how shoes differ, who they may work for, and how their specifications and design features compare.
Who creates Cadence content
Cadence is founded and maintained by Mark Shannon, a competitive runner and running coach. Author information and relevant experience are available on the author page.
Originality and editorial value
Cadence does not aim to reproduce manufacturer product pages. Manufacturer and retailer information may be consulted to verify factual details, but Cadence organizes, compares, contextualizes, and explains that information for runners.
Articles, comparison guides, category explanations, database organization, and recommendations are written or edited specifically for Cadence. We work to add useful context rather than merely repeat product descriptions.
Research process
Depending on the subject, research may include:
- Official manufacturer specifications and product materials
- Established running retailers and product listings
- Published research relevant to footwear and biomechanics
- Direct comparison with related shoes and previous models
- Personal running, racing, coaching, and testing experience
Personal testing is only represented as personal testing when the author has actually used the shoe. A database entry or research-based overview should not be interpreted as a claim that the shoe was personally tested.
Reviews and recommendations
Shoe recommendations are based on factors such as intended use, cushioning, stability, geometry, weight, fit, price, durability, and how a shoe compares with alternatives. No shoe is appropriate for every runner, and recommendations are not medical advice.
Advertising and affiliate independence
Cadence may earn revenue through advertising or qualifying purchases made through affiliate links. Advertisers, retailers, and brands do not receive the right to approve editorial conclusions or rankings because of a commercial relationship.
The existence of a purchase link does not guarantee that a product will receive positive coverage or a recommendation.
Corrections and updates
Running-shoe specifications, prices, availability, and product lineups can change. Cadence reviews and updates content as new information becomes available. When we identify a meaningful error, we correct it as soon as reasonably possible.
