Find Your Stride

Max cushion, minus the weight. The MagMax Nitro 2 takes everything that made the original a sleeper hit and makes it lighter, roomier, and even easier to run in day after day.
The original MagMax Nitro quietly won over a lot of daily trainers in 2024 — a max-stack shoe that actually felt lively rather than sluggish. The MagMax Nitro 2 doesn't chase a dramatic reinvention. Instead, PUMA made the kind of precise, targeted improvements that take a good shoe and make it noticeably better.
The supercritical NITROFOAM midsole was already one of the more balanced foams in the max-cushion category — soft enough for long miles, bouncy enough to keep turnover feeling easy. For version 2, PUMA trimmed the weight without touching the energy return, so the ride feels the same underfoot but the shoe disappears on your foot faster. Paired with a redesigned outsole that reduces rubber coverage where it isn't needed while keeping PUMAGRIP traction where it is, the MagMax Nitro 2 moves with noticeably less resistance than its predecessor.
The upper is engineered mesh reinforced with PWRTAPE for a breathable, secure lockdown, and a plush collar adds ankle comfort for longer efforts. Like the Deviate Nitro 4, PUMA has rounded and expanded the toe box here as well — a welcome change for anyone who felt the original ran a touch snug up front. Whether you're grinding through a high-mileage training block or just want a cushioned shoe that doesn't feel like you're hauling extra weight, the MagMax Nitro 2 is one of the better options in its category right now.
